Availability: Construction CRM edition only. Requires the construction vertical add-on module to be enabled for your account by an Administrator. The same underlying screen is labelled "Solar Assessment" in the Solar CRM edition and "Construction Assessment" here, because of the edition's terminology mapping.

Overview

The construction assessment is the feasibility step. It takes the site record and the completed survey and turns them into a technical judgement about whether and how the work can be delivered. The assessment sits between the survey and the estimate, so the priced estimate and BOQ are built on an assessed scope rather than on raw survey notes.

The assessment is a construction record in its own right, linked to the site and the survey it was based on.

How It Works

You create the assessment against the site, select the survey it draws on, name the assessor, record the technical conclusions, and save it. The estimate and BOQ are then prepared from the assessed scope.

Site Survey Assessment (feasibility) Estimate and BOQ Financial plan

  • The assessment references the construction site and the survey, so the chain from field visit to price stays traceable.
  • The assessment records the feasibility judgement for the scope of work described on the site.
  • Because the edition remaps terminology, this screen reads as "Construction Assessment" even though the underlying assessment screen is shared with the solar vertical.
  • Once the assessment is recorded, the estimate and BOQ screens are used to price the work.

Who Can Use This Feature?

User

  • Create an assessment against a construction site and its survey.
  • Record the feasibility judgement and the technical conclusions.
  • Attach supporting documents to the assessment.
  • Hand the assessed scope to the estimating step.

Access depends on the modules and role assigned by your Administrator.

Prerequisites

  • The construction vertical module enabled for your account.
  • A construction site record for the work.
  • A completed site survey to base the assessment on.
  • An assessor available to record as the person responsible for the judgement.

For Users

Step 1: Open the assessments list

Check whether an assessment already exists for the site before creating a new one, so that the site does not carry two competing judgements.

Step 2: Create the assessment

What to do: select Add, then select the construction site and the survey the assessment is based on. Record the assessor and the assessment date.

What to verify: the survey shown on the assessment is the one that covers the current site conditions.

Step 3: Record the feasibility judgement

What to do: complete the assessment fields with your technical conclusions on whether the work can be delivered as described, and under what conditions. State any constraints the estimate must price, such as access, existing structures or soil conditions recorded on the site.

What to verify: the judgement is specific enough for the estimator to act on without going back to the survey.

Step 4: Attach supporting documents and save

What to do: Upload any supporting calculations or documents, complete every mandatory field, then select Save.

What to verify: the assessment appears in the assessment list against its site, and the site now shows a completed assessment step.

Expected Result

The assessment is saved against the construction site and its survey, with the feasibility judgement and the assessor recorded. The estimate and BOQ for the site can now be prepared from the assessed scope.

Important Notes

  • Menu names and their position can differ between product editions and can be customised for your account, so your sidebar may not match these paths exactly. Use Search or your Quick Access items if you cannot find a screen.
  • The assessment does not replace the survey. It records a judgement about what the survey found, and both records are kept.
  • If you compare notes with a Solar CRM user, the same screen is labelled "Solar Assessment" for them. The fields on that edition's version of the screen relate to solar design, so do not assume every field described in solar documentation applies to a construction assessment.
  • Assessment visibility follows the ownership-based permission scopes, so what appears in your assessment list depends on your role.

Common Scenarios

Example: conditional feasibility on an extension. The survey shows that the existing foundation cannot carry the planned second floor. The assessment records that the extension is feasible only with foundation strengthening, and the estimate that follows prices the strengthening as a separate BOQ section.

Example: an assessment that stops the job. The assessment concludes the scope is not deliverable at the permitted cost. The site is left without an approved estimate, and the record explains to the client why the enquiry did not proceed.

Troubleshooting

IssuePossible CauseResolution
The survey cannot be selected on the assessment. No survey exists for the site, or the survey is not finished.Complete the site survey first, then create the assessment.
The assessment screen is not available. The construction vertical module is not enabled, or your role does not include assessments. An Administrator enables the module or grants the permission.
The assessment cannot be saved.A mandatory field is empty.Complete every mandatory field and select Save again.
The screen heading mentions solar. The account's product type is not set to construction, so the terminology mapping is not applied. An Administrator confirms the account is on the Construction edition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this screen shared with the solar vertical?

The construction vertical keeps its own assessment records but reuses shared screens for several steps. The edition's terminology mapping changes the wording you see.

Can a site have more than one assessment?

Assessments are separate records linked to the site, so a revised assessment can be recorded after a re-survey. Keep the site's current position clear to the estimating team.

Does the assessment feed the estimate automatically?

The assessment defines the scope you then price. Prepare the estimate and BOQ on the estimate screens; the assessment is the input, not the price.
