Overview
The Tally integration synchronises CrmLeaf data with Tally running on a desktop computer, with GST-aware handling for India. Because Tally is desktop software rather than a cloud service, the integration works through a local agent installed on a machine that can reach your Tally installation. Understanding that architecture matters, because it changes what you have to install and keep running.
How It Works
An Administrator enables the module in CrmLeaf and installs the local agent on the computer where Tally runs, or on a machine on the same network. The agent connects CrmLeaf to the Tally desktop application, so records can be transferred between the cloud account and the local company data in Tally. Payroll data can also be synchronised to Tally where the Payroll module is in use.
Enable module → Install local agent → Connect agent to Tally → Sync records → Verify in Tally
- The agent is the bridge. If the computer running the agent is switched off, or Tally is closed, synchronisation cannot take place at that moment.
- The integration is GST-aware for India, so tax configuration in CrmLeaf should match the tax treatment used in your Tally company.
- Payroll output can be synchronised with Tally when the Payroll module is enabled.
- Data continues to be created in CrmLeaf; Tally receives it for accounting.
Who Can Use This Feature?
Administrator
- Enable the Tally integration module for the account.
- Arrange installation of the local agent on a suitable computer.
- Connect the agent to the correct Tally company and confirm records arrive.
- Keep the agent running and reconnect it after network or machine changes.
This functionality is available only to Administrators.
Prerequisites
- Administrator access to CrmLeaf.
- A licenced Tally installation on a desktop computer, with the correct company data loaded, and administrator rights on that computer so the local agent can be installed.
- A computer that can stay switched on when synchronisation is expected, with network access from that machine.
- Tax and currency configuration in CrmLeaf aligned with your Tally company, including GST details where applicable.
- Cooperation from whoever administers your Tally installation and the machine it runs on.
For Administrators
Step 1: Enable the integration module
What to do: Enable the Tally integration module for the account.
What to verify: The integration's settings screen becomes available.
Step 2: Prepare the computer that runs Tally
What to do: Identify the computer where Tally runs and confirm you can install software on it. Decide whether the agent will run on that same machine or on another machine that can reach it.
What to verify: Tally opens the intended company on that machine, and you have administrator rights on the operating system.
Step 3: Install and connect the local agent
What to do: Install the CrmLeaf local agent for Tally on the prepared computer and connect it to both your CrmLeaf account and the Tally company. This is the step that links the cloud account to the desktop application.
What to verify: CrmLeaf shows the agent as connected, and the agent reports that it can reach Tally.
Step 4: Run a test synchronisation
What to do: Synchronise one record - for example a single invoice, or one payroll cycle if you are using Tally for payroll - and then open Tally.
What to verify: The record appears in the correct Tally company with the expected amounts and tax treatment. Correct any tax mapping before synchronising more data.
Step 5: Plan the ongoing routine
What to do: Agree when synchronisation happens and who checks it, and make sure the agent computer is available at those times.
What to verify: A named person confirms after each cycle that Tally and CrmLeaf agree.
Expected Result
The local agent links your CrmLeaf account to the Tally desktop application, and synchronised records appear in your Tally company with GST-aware treatment. Accounting in Tally reflects what was raised in CrmLeaf without manual re-entry.
Important Notes
- Menu names and their position can differ between product editions and can be customised for your account, so your sidebar may not match these paths exactly. Use Search or your Quick Access items if you cannot find a screen.
- Tally is desktop software. Synchronisation depends on a local agent, a running computer and an accessible Tally installation - unlike cloud integrations that need only credentials.
- This is an add-on module. Confirm plan inclusion before committing to it.
- The integration is built with India GST in mind. Confirm suitability with your accountant if you operate under a different tax regime.
- Payroll synchronisation to Tally requires the Payroll add-on module as well.
Common Scenarios
Example: accountant works in Tally. Sales raise invoices in CrmLeaf while the accountant keeps the statutory books in Tally. The agent runs on the accountant's office computer, and synchronised invoices remove double entry at month end.
Example: payroll to Tally. An Administrator runs payroll in CrmLeaf, then synchronises the completed cycle to Tally so salary costs sit in the books alongside other entries.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| Synchronisation does not run | The computer running the local agent is switched off, or Tally is not open with the linked company | Start the machine, open the correct Tally company and retry |
| The Tally settings screen is missing | The add-on module is not enabled for the account | Enable the module in module settings, or confirm plan inclusion |
| Records arrive with the wrong tax treatment | Tax configuration in CrmLeaf does not match the Tally company | Align tax rates and GST details, then re-test with a single record |
| Payroll data cannot be synchronised | The Payroll add-on module is not enabled | Enable the Payroll module and complete a payroll cycle first |
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a local agent needed at all?
Tally runs on a desktop computer rather than as a cloud service, so a local agent is required to connect your CrmLeaf account to that installation.
Does Tally have to stay open?
Synchronisation depends on the agent being able to reach Tally, so the machine and Tally must be available when a sync is expected.
Can I use both Tally and QuickBooks Online?
They are separate integrations with separate modules. Confirm with the product team before running both against the same billing data.
