Availability: All editions. Mobile push notifications are delivered to the CrmLeaf mobile app over Firebase Cloud Messaging. Which notifications exist at all depends on the modules enabled for your account, because each module contributes its own notification types.
Overview
The CrmLeaf mobile app receives push notifications so field users learn about assignments, approvals and reminders without opening the application. The most important point for support is how push is controlled: mobile push follows the email channel. If a user would receive a notification by email, it also pushes to their device.
This article explains that behaviour, and the practical consequence - there is no separate mobile-push switch to turn off, so push is managed through email-notification preferences.
How It Works
Push delivery is not a separate notification list. The server evaluates the user's email-notification preferences for a notification type, and any notification that qualifies for email is also sent to the user's registered device.
Event occurs → Notification generated → Email preference checked → Push sent to device → Deep link opens the record
- Push is delivered over Firebase Cloud Messaging to the app on the user's device.
- Push mirrors the email channel. Notification types that reach a user by email - for example task assignments and reminders, leave, expenses, vendor payments, recruitment events and schedule reminders - also reach them as push.
- There is no separate mobile-push toggle. Push is governed by the user's email-notification preferences.
- Each push carries deep-link routing, so opening it takes the user to the relevant screen based on the notification type rather than to the app's home area.
- Notification types only exist for modules the account has enabled, so a disabled add-on produces neither email nor push.
Who Can Use This Feature?
Administrator
- Configure the account's notification settings and the notification types that are active.
- Configure SMTP so the email channel - which push follows - works correctly.
- Configure the account's push settings.
- Explain to users that switching off an email notification also switches off its push.
User
- Sign in to the mobile app so the device can receive push.
- Allow notifications for the app at device level.
- Change which notifications you receive by changing your email-notification preferences.
Access depends on the modules and role assigned by your Administrator.
Prerequisites
- The CrmLeaf mobile app installed and signed in on the user's device.
- Notification permission granted to the app at device level.
- Account notification settings configured, including a working SMTP configuration for the email channel.
- The modules whose notifications you expect must be enabled for the account.
For Administrators
Step 1: Confirm the email channel is configured
What to do: Confirm the account's SMTP configuration is complete and send a test message. Because push follows email, a broken email channel affects the behaviour users depend on.
What to verify: The test message is delivered successfully.
Step 2: Review the account's notification settings
What to do: Review the notification types available for your account and which are active. Only active notification types can produce email, and therefore push.
What to verify: The notification types your teams rely on are active.
Step 3: Review the push settings area
What to do: Confirm the account's push configuration is in place so devices can be reached.
What to verify: Push configuration is saved without errors.
Step 4: Set the expectation with users
What to do: Tell users that push is not separately switchable. To stop a push, they must switch off the matching email notification; to receive a push, that email notification must stay on.
What to verify: Support requests asking to "turn off mobile alerts only" are answered with the email-preference route.
For Users
Step 1: Allow notifications for the app
What to do: Grant notification permission to the CrmLeaf app in your device settings and make sure you are signed in.
What to verify: The device shows CrmLeaf as allowed to send notifications.
Step 2: Decide which notifications you want
What to do: Open your notification preferences and switch off the email notifications you do not want. Switching one off also stops its push. Keep the ones you want to receive on your phone switched on.
What to verify: After the change, you stop receiving both the email and the push for that notification type.
Step 3: Use the deep link from a push
What to do: Open a push notification. The app routes you to the screen relating to that notification type.
What to verify: The record referenced in the notification opens.
Field and Option Reference
| Field / Option | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Settings → SMTP | Outgoing mail configuration for the account. Push follows the email channel, so this underpins notification delivery. | Yes |
| Settings → Notification | Account-level notification configuration, including which notification types are active. | Yes |
| Settings → Push | Account-level push configuration for delivery to mobile devices. | Yes |
| Email-notification preference (per user) | Governs whether a user receives a notification type. Also governs whether the same notification pushes to their device. | Yes |
| Device notification permission | Operating-system permission that allows the app to display notifications. | Yes |
Expected Result
Signed-in mobile users receive push notifications for every notification type their email preferences allow, each push opens the related screen, and a user who no longer wants a push has switched off the corresponding email notification.
Important Notes
- Menu names and their position can differ between product editions and can be customised for your account, so your sidebar may not match these paths exactly. Use Search or your Quick Access items if you cannot find a screen.
- There is no mobile-only notification switch. Any request to "keep the email but stop the push", or the reverse, cannot be satisfied inside CrmLeaf - the two travel together.
- Silencing CrmLeaf at device level stops the phone from displaying pushes but does not stop the emails.
- If a module is not enabled for the account, its notifications do not exist, so no push is produced.
- Add-on modules are plan-gated. Confirm inclusion in your plan before expecting notifications from them.
Common Scenarios
Example: a manager receiving too many phone alerts. The manager asks to keep leave-approval emails but stop the phone alerts. Because push follows email, the only options are to switch off the leave notification entirely, or to silence CrmLeaf notifications on the device while continuing to receive the emails.
Example: a field user receiving no pushes. The user is signed in and the device permission is granted, but their email notifications for task assignment were switched off earlier. Switching that preference back on restores both the email and the push.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| No push notifications at all | The user is not signed in on the device, or notification permission is denied at device level | Sign in to the app and allow notifications in the device settings. |
| Some notifications push, others do not | The user's email-notification preference for those types is switched off | Switch the matching email notification back on. |
| A user cannot find a mobile-push switch | There is no separate mobile-push toggle | Manage push through the user's email-notification preferences. |
| No notifications from a module | The add-on module is not enabled for the account | Ask the Administrator to confirm the module is included in the plan and enabled. |
| Emails arrive but nothing reaches the phone | The account's push configuration is incomplete, or the device is not registered because the user signed out | Review Settings push configuration and have the user sign in again. |
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I turn mobile push notifications off?
Switch off the email notification for that notification type. Push follows the email channel, so there is no separate mobile-push toggle in CrmLeaf. Alternatively, silence CrmLeaf notifications on the device, which stops the phone alerts but not the emails.
Which notifications push to my phone?
Any notification you would receive by email, including task assignments and reminders, leave, expenses, vendor payments, recruitment events and schedule reminders.
Why does tapping a notification open a specific record?
Pushes carry deep-link routing based on the notification type, so the app opens the relevant screen.
Can an Administrator switch push off for the whole account?
Notification types are configured at account level in Settings. Switching a notification type off removes both its email and its push. There is no account-wide push-only switch documented.
